As the CEO of the world’s largest company, Apple’s Tim Cook is expected to be a tech expert. However, during an interview with the Wall Street Journal Magazine, a question about a simple texting feature caught him off guard.

In his conversation with WSJ’s Ben Cohen, Cook shared insights about how Apple operates and how he approaches challenges as its leader. But in a lighter moment, when the topic shifted to his personal tech habits, Cook was left surprised.

 “I don’t name them”

Famous for his minimalist style, Tim Cook didn’t realize users could assign names to iMessage group chats.

When Cohen asked Cook what the best group chat name was, the CEO was momentarily perplexed.

“He gave me a look as if I had asked him to recommend the best Android phone,” Cohen remarked.

“The best—name?” Cook replied. “I don’t name them. Do you name yours? Interesting. I might have to try that.”

The Apple CEO quickly adopted the suggestion, and at his next meeting, he proudly told his interviewer that he had named his group chat with his college friends and roommates.

In the in-depth profile, Tim Cook also shared insights into his daily routine. He explained that the first thing he does upon waking up at 4 a.m. is check his iPhone and read through his emails.
